I'm a Voice Actor, spurred to pursue this vocation from so many hours of playing... well... playing games.
Games were the 'forbidden fruit' growing up, as my parents believed it to be 'boys territory'... too violent, too macho... and also because, underneath they figured their 'useless daughter' would only be wasting what few precious brain cells she had if she played games.
They obviously had no idea and no interest in the types of games I'd play, nor did they put any stock into the fact that, when well done, a game can be as thought provoking - and dare I say educational - as a book or a good Lecturer... although I also love to read and I DID enjoy school (Just sooo lucky that way... please note... I did not say I was popular or non-bullied).
I continue to play games that exercise my imagination, give me pause to think and help me self-reflect. The games I choose let me look at the lives and culture of those who make them, providing a different perspective so that I can (hopefully) continue my never-ending quest to be something meaningful to all those I encounter and make a positive impact.
A good game can help nurture a soul, nudge us onto the best path to take in our lives or even simply provide enough reprieve from a bad day/week/month to allow us to go on. To deride or dismiss this only serves to lessen the quality of the product (for why would they work so hard if they will only be punished for it anyhow?) and, and at worst hasten us towards losing something that could help us all become better, more thoughtful individuals. Support and appreciate - Love to all!
